Artist Description
He is all of 22 years old and plays a variety of musical instruments. Meet Raghav Sachar, too young to be so good.
He looks like the quintessential college kid. Tee and jeans coupled with spiked hair. A typical kid influenced by the latest pop star. Once he starts talking, however, you realize that this kid is different after all – for one, he takes his music very seriously and he has also released his debut album For The First Time (Saregama) recently in which he has showcased his talent for playing 22 instruments (whew!) His father's (a retired additional DG of Police) natural interest in music helped Raghav develop his musical talent too. It was his father who admitted Raghav in a music school in Delhi when he was just eight. It was there that Raghav further developed his musical talents.
After school, he majored in music from the Monash International School of Music Conservatory in Australia and specialized in saxophone. He then gained experience by doing ad jingles and also playing at Shubha Mudgal's concerts. Soon Atul Churamani of Saregama noticed him and the rest, as they say, is history.
For The First Time gives him ample scope to display his talent for playing 22 instruments. There are eight compositions in the album. Three are originals while four are adaptations of popular Hindi songs. One is an interpretation of a Sting song. The latter is his favorite, admits Raghav. He has used different genres ranging from jazz to Arabian in his album. The album predominantly sounds Western classical and he is confident that his album will attract 'niche buyers'. He denies that this is a remix album and says he has incorporated his own music in the Hindi film songs for his album.
What future does he foresee? Raghav believes that Indians are inclined to give more prominence to singers than musicians. Which is why he is more than thankful to Saregama for promoting him. However, with a musician like A.R. Rahman catapulting to fame, Raghav is confident that he will make it too. We are sure he will.
